Colorado DOT selects team for US 6 design-build safety and mobility project

The Colorado Department of Transportation has selected the team of Felsburg Holt & Ullevig and Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. for the US 6 design-build project that will reconstruct 6th Ave. from Knox Court to just east of I-25, replace five bridges that are either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete and improve the Federal Boulevard/US 6 interchange.

Federal Sandy aid is starting to flow to NYC

Federal money for Hurricane Sandy relief is starting to flow to New York City. Recently, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved the city's plan to spend $1.77 billion - the first disbursement of a $51 billion storm aid package Congress passed in January.

Many elements of our most critical systems are aging, deteriorating, and severely congested, as evidenced by the D+ grade that the American Society of Civil Engineers recently gave to the nation’s infrastructure. There are continuing calls for investment in infrastructure, even from some out-spoken "budget hawks," not only to provide the basis for creating construction and manufacturing jobs, but more importantly to sow the seeds for long-run economic growth and global competitiveness.

US Fuel Corporation, announced today that Woolpert, Inc. will be the Lead Design Consultant and Design-Build Program Manager to provide the necessary planning, design and preliminary design-build documents in coordination with the coal-to-liquid process engineers for the U.S. Fuel CTL plants planned for Muhlenberg County and Perry County, Ky.

Kansas DOT picks design-build short list for Johnson County Gateway project

The Kansas Department of Transportation is paring down the candidates for the design-build team that will lead the way on building the $600 million Johnson County Gateway Project interchange improvement project at the intersection of Interstate 35, 435 and Kansas Highway 10 in Lenexa.

Southland Industries wins high profile projects

Southland Industries, one of the nation's largest design-build contracting firms, was recently awarded the National Museum of African American History and Culture project in downtown Washington, D.C.; the Holy Cross Hospital Campus expansion and renovation project in Silver Spring, Md.; and the SLS Hotel and Casino renovation project in Las Vegas.

Blythe Construction, Parsons Brinckerhoff tapped for Winston-Salem, NC, road project

The N.C. Department of Transportation has chosen design-build team Parsons Brinckerhoff and Blythe Construction Inc. to complete a $69 million roadway project in Winston-Salem. As previously reported, Charlotte-based Blythe was the lowest bidder for the project.

Contractors are moving forward and are promoting the concept and now with federal, state and local governments using design-build it appears that this delivery method will continue grow in popularity.

Projects must have been completed and occupied by the owner after March 31, 2010. Entries from outside the U.S. - both projects and firms - are welcome. The deadline for entering is May 21, 2013.
