Minneapolis' Opus Design Build tackles renovation project at Iowa college

Minneapolis-based Opus Design Build will renovate two residence halls on the Decorah, Iowa, campus of Luther College. This is a two-phase renovation project in which residential towers Miller Hall and Dieseth Hall will receive upgrades. Design preparations for the $7.5 million project are under way. The Miller Hall renovation is scheduled to start in May of 2011 and conclude in late August. Dieseth Hall is scheduled to undergo renovations next summer and be completed for the start of the fall 2012 academic year. More

Grand Parkway in Houston gets green light for design work

The state Transportation Commission granted the Texas Department of Transportation authority to begin design work and negotiating contracts to build a key segment of the Grand Parkway in Houston. The unanimous vote did not, however, authorize funds to start work on Segment E of the tollway, which would link the Katy Freeway to the Northwest Freeway, just west of Fairfield. More

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario, Canada, says its seven-year pavement warranty program - the only program of its kind in North America - will provide an ongoing model for future paving contracts. The warranty program has undergone a five-year trial phase and combines design-build contracting and multi-year warranties on hot mix paving. More

California judge dismisses engineer union's lawsuit on P3 project

An Alameda County Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit brought on by the Professional Engineers in California Government to halt the Department of Transportation's plan to use a public-private partnership for the second phase of the $1 billion Presidio Parkway project in San Francisco. More
