How Social Networks Work for Hunters

In recent months, the author of this article has joined a number of online social networks for hunters. He was not exactly sure what to expect, but almost immediately one very positive thing happened -- he made contact with a lot of interesting people who share his conviction that hunting is the center of all things that really matter. Firearms Industry Rejects National Park Service Classification of Traditional Ammunition

In response to an announcement regarding a National Parks Service program encouraging hunters to voluntarily switch to alternative ammunition, the National Shooting Sports Foundation rejected NPS's categorization of traditional ammunition as a health threat. NSSF is offering to work with the NPS to develop measures to educate hunters about steps they can take to prevent scavengers from ingesting lead fragments of spent traditional ammunition. The park service is proposing to ban, at a minimum, the use of lead bullets, shot and sinkers in the park system by NPS personnel. More
Dry Conditions Could Boost Dove Hunting Prospects

Despite extended drought conditions across much of Texas, wildlife biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department suggest there has been enough moisture to set the stage for good hunting this dove season. “Dry conditions don’t necessarily equate to bad dove hunting,” said Corey Mason, TPWD dove program leader. “I’ve been around the state the last month and have seen good production of native sunflower and numbers of doves along high lines and around water. I’m expecting a good dove season.” More
