Nationwide, spending on hunting gear is soaring, says the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which tracks hunting trends. Companies that make, distribute or sell sporting firearms, ammunition and supplies generated $27.8 billion in economic activity in 2009, vs. $19.1 billion in 2008, says the group's 2010 Firearms and Ammunition Industry Economic Impact Report. Anderson is one of the few North Texas hunting outfitters who saw the potential of Senate Bill 734, enacted in 2005. S.B. 734 allows for hunting inside certain city limits and within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of a city. Further legislation enacted in 2009, S.B. 1742, created an expanded buffer zone between hunters and schools, houses and so forth.
