Obama's Election and the Future of Hunting in America
from NRA Hunters Rights
Obama’s voting record related to gun ownership is an open book for all to see. What is not as well known is the threat to hunting in America posed by an Obama administration and its most vocal supporters. It is time that all sportsmen realize what’s at stake, because we will need to stand ready to respond when the assaults come. More

Bowhunters Concerned about Possible Regulation Change
from the Beaumont Enterprise
Texas bowhunters are a close-knit group. They are just as passionate about protecting their sport as they are about playing their game. It comes as no surprise that archers around the state are getting organized to oppose a controversial regulation change announced earlier this fall by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. More

Wrapping up a December Whitetail
from ESPN
The rutting frenzy in all of its November glory has come and gone for another year. But that doesn't mean that you should hang up your bow, rifle or muzzleloader just yet. With a few weeks of late season hunting remaining in most areas, hard core deer hunters can still fill the freezer — and perhaps that empty space on the wall — well before St. Nick arrives in time for Christmas morning. Tyler Group Continues To Show Hunters Have Big Heart
from the Tyler Morning Telegraph
For those who don't hunt, it isn't hard to pigeon hole those who do. Having a mistrust or prejudice about what you don't know is common. But for every comment about drunken slobs shooting up the country side, there are many stories, true stories, about what is right about hunters and hunting. This story transcends hunting and crosses over into national pride and the meaning of Christmas. More

'Tis the Season for Hunting and Fishing
from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
While returning from a deer hunt this week, I noticed ducks floating in nearly every farm tank, flocks of sandhill cranes and geese overhead and too many dead deer along the roadside.Yes, the whitetail rut is under way from Val Verde County eastward, and I've heard the same from hunters throughout South Texas. And so with all this wildlife activity around us, I thought I'd use this space to remind everyone about what's in season, what game seasons will open or reopen shortly and then list some of the other outdoors opportunities. 'Dream' Hunt Brightens Holiday
from the Shreveport Times
Katie Shockley isn't your average deer hunter. But thanks to the "Catch-A-Dream" organization the wheelchair-bound 10-year-old was able to harvest the deer of a lifetime on a recent hunt in south Texas. Diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rare but extremely difficult to control tumor, the former Curtis Elementary student has been paralyzed from the waist down since September 2007. But dealing with a life-threatening illness hasn't quelled Shockley's spirit or slowed down her enthusiasm for deer hunting. More

New York Youth Hunting Trend Right Way to Go
from the Press & Sun Bulletin
Sportsmen are inarguably the backbone of wildlife management programs across the country-- their license fees, excise taxes and other contributions funding nearly 70 percent of all state wildlife agency budgets. Unpublicized, however, is that the number of big-game hunters has declined at a much slower rate, and, in some states, like New York, actually rose this year. New York's miniscule "resurgence" undoubtedly comes from the fact we're licensing younger hunters for big game this year for the first time in history. It's a step in the right direction. More

Federal Agency Seeks to Remove Gray Wolf from Protected List
An official with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service said the agency is looking for other ways to remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list in the wake of a September court decision that returned the animal to protected status. Delisting the wolf would give states more alternatives for dealing with problem animals in the resurgent population. More
