    Northeast Chapter of EBA Holds its Annual Conference — June 12th

    You are encouraged to attend EBA's Northeast Chapter Annual Meeting on June 12, 2014. The full day program includes sessions on: Resilient Infrastructure State Initiatives; RTOs/ISOs Perspectives on Order No. 1000; Restructuring Markets Outside of the US and Exporting Liquefied Natural Gas ("LNG") Export. Keynote address by Elizabeth Moore, General Counsel for Consolidated Edison and luncheon speaker is The Honorable Cheryl A. LaFleur, Acting Chairperson, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The meeting will conclude with a networking reception.

    Rocky Mountain Chapter of EBA Holds its Annual Meeting — June 20th

    The Rocky Mountain Chapter will hold its Second Annual Meeting, taking place June 20, 2014, at Xcel Energy in Denver, CO. This half-day program begins with a networking lunch and is followed by two afternoon educational panels: Rocky Mountain State Policy Panel and Current Federal Regulatory Challenges Affecting the Energy Industry of Particular Interest in the Rocky Mountain Region. In addition, the program will include the Chapter’s Annual Business Meeting and Election of Officers and end with a hosted cocktail networking reception.     EBA hosts the Sixth Annual YLC Summer Intern Reception

    On Tuesday, June 24th, please join the Young Lawyers Committee (YLC) of EBA for its Sixth Annual Summer Intern Reception at City Tap House, 901 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC. Young lawyers and seasoned practitioners alike are invited to join in welcoming summer interns to the practice of energy law and the energy bar. The event will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Limited space is available, so please be sure to register by June 17, 2014. Any registrations received after June 17, 2014, will be accommodated based on space availability. The Young Lawyers Committee also offers the opportunity for sponsorship of this event - Premium Sponsor level for $500 with benefits including four tickets and Sponsor level for $250 with benefits including two tickets.     Water and Air Quality Issues in Oil and Gas Development:
    The Evolving Framework of Regulation and Management

    The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Energy Bar Association is pleased to be a co-sponsor of the 2014 Martz Summer Conference, Water and Air Quality Issues in Oil and Gas Development: The Evolving Framework of Regulation and Management to be held June 5-6, 2014 University of Colorado Law School, Wolf Law Building in Boulder, CO. The 2 day program will focus on the new era of energy development in key resource rich pockets throughout the US that have been ushered in by technological advances for extracting oil and gas from shale deposits. The speakers will review the ongoing efforts of governments and industry to develop the regulatory and management practices necessary to protect water and air resources, drawing on the latest scientific research to tackle areas of uncertainty and to inform future action.

    FERC: Final Rule for eTariff filings
    FERC
    The Commission is clarifying its regulations to make explicit that, consistent with Order No. 714 (73 FR 57515) and its subsequent orders, statutory tariff and rate filings must be made electronically, according to the Commission's posted requirements for eTariff filings. Filings not made in proper electronic format will not become effective under the applicable statutes if the Commission fails to act by the proposed effective dates in the applicants' pleadings.

    FERC issues EA for Cove Point LNG export project

    The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has issued its environmental assessment for the Cove Point LNG liquefaction and export project. The project is proposed by Dominion Cove Point LNG LP. FERC has concluded "approval of the proposed project, with appropriate mitigating measures, would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment."

    Pushback: Carbon limits for new power plants must be 'grounded in reality'

    The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed carbon dioxide emissions limits for new fossil fuel-fired power plants should be reworked to be "grounded in reality," an industry group said on May 12. The proposed rule, formally issued in January, set separate standards for coal-fired and natural gas-fired generating units.

    Department of Energy stops collecting nuclear waste fee
    The Hill
    The Department of Energy has stopped collecting a small fee on nuclear energy customers' bills that was supposed to pay for a nuclear waste site that was never built. The fee amounted to 0.1 cent per kilowatt-hour of electricity, but it added up to about $750 million a year, the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit said in a November ruling.

    US FERC staff anticipates higher electric, gas prices this summer

    A hot summer with above-normal temperatures throughout most of the U.S. will likely mean higher electric and natural gas prices this summer. This is according to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's summer energy market and reliability assessment. The assessment, presented by FERC staff at the commission's recent monthly meeting Thursday, projects particularly high prices for California this summer, made worse by drought and wildfires.
