    Did you know…?
    EBA
The renamed Alternative Dispute Resolution and Consensus-Building Committee expanded in function to incorporate the body of collaborative work and achievements done under the framework of consensus-building. In ADR, parties are guided by a neutral third party, non-decisional subject matter expert or early neutral evaluator, as appropriate, to achieve mutually agreed upon solutions and decisions to their concerns and conflicts outside of court and in a non-adversarial manner. More and more energy practitioners in law, companies and leadership and experts in government are honing and sharpening their own skill sets to problem-solve, effect interest-based negotiated solutions, and prevent and resolve conflict early through a collaborative and consensus building framework. Whether you are an advocate for your client as a practicing energy attorney, a non-attorney, a regulatory affairs specialist, or serve in another capacity, leadership or otherwise to effect positive change regarding energy mission, compliance, and project fruition, you may have a lot to offer the ADR and Consensus Building Committee. If you have interest in or questions about joining the ADR and Consensus Building Committee, please contact the committee chair at Deborah.Osborne@ferc.gov. If you are interested in joining any other committees, please download the sign up form on the Committee page; http://eba-net.org/get-involved/eba-committees and return to EBA.

Why FERC Order 745 no longer matters
    Intelligent Utility
The Supreme Court’s announcement that it will hear arguments on FERC Order 745 is less significant than it appears for most of the country, and it is largely meaningless for California. Why? For areas without organized markets, Order 745 has no effect.

The EPA's mercury standards: A debate poorly framed
    The Hill
The recent Supreme Court ruling on Mercury and Air Toxic Standards (Utility MACT) has lately been framed as by conservatives as a blow to "crippling regulations" chauvinistically made with zero consideration for the facts on the costs and benefits of regulation, and by liberals as an attempt to boost polluting industry at the cost of the public’s health. Starkly grim statements have left both sides at each other’s throats, but the debate has been poorly framed.

    Inside the nation's 1st renewables-plus-storage microgrid
    Utility Dive
Borrego Springs, California, sits less than 100 miles from San Diego, but in terms of electric reliability the two places were once worlds apart. San Diego Gas & Electric serves 3.4 million consumers with 1.4 million electric meters in its territory. And last year — for the ninth consecutive year — it was named the most reliable Western utility by PA Consulting Group. But if you lived in Borrego Springs, an isolated desert community surrounded by a state park, your utility experience was markedly different.
