Registration now open for EBA Energizer: FERC Jurisdictional Blurred Lines
The EBA Electricity Committee invites you to attend EBA Energizer: Jurisdictional Blurred Lines on Tuesday, September 22nd from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the law offices of Greenberg Traurig, LLP in Washington, DC. Two featured panelists will discuss changing FERC jurisdiction in response to evolving energy markets during this short educational program. The first panel will discuss FERC's jurisdiction as it relates to the CFTC, while the second panel will explore the intersection of Federal and State jurisdiction in a decentralizing power system. All attendees are invited to the networking reception immediately following the panel discussions.

Spanish utility Endesa says it faces a 'situation unknown' as solar-plus-storage blossoms
In response to a controversial government proposal to penalize electricity self-consumption in Spain, the country’s largest utility, Endesa, says it views battery storage as a serious threat.
Reviewing REV: New York's transformational energy proposal
Reforming the Energy Vision is a New York initiative that would create a radically different electric system and change the way power is generated and distributed in the state, as utilities would direct the distribution of electricity produced by thousands of smaller entities.
South Carolina regulators approve $900 million cost increase for new nuclear units
The South Carolina Public Service Commission approved another cost increase for the two new V.C. Summer Nuclear Generating Station reactors under construction in the state, bringing the total cost of the project to $6.8 billion.
EPSA, other demand response opponents file Supreme Court brief
The Electric Power Supply Association and several other groups and utilities have filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the justices to reject what they view as FERC's attempts to overstep its authority and regulate demand response at the retail level.
14th Annual Gas and Power Institute Co-Sponsored Program
Attend the 14th Annual Gas and Power Institute program and reception, co-sponsored by the Energy Bar Association, the University of Texas School of Law, and the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. The EBA is pleased to co-sponsor this year's 6th Annual Critical Infrastructure Communications Policy Summit, which will be held September 16th at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, Washington, DC to hear members of the federal and state policy communities address the challenges and potential innovative solutions to communications needs.
EBA Solo and Small Firm Task Force Kick-off Teleconference
Please join us on Wednesday, September 16th at 2:00 pm (EST) for the EBA Solo and Small Firm Task Force Kick-Off call where we'll discuss the Task Force's goals and develop ideas for future events. Although the Task Force's focus is on solo and small firm lawyers, all EBA members are welcome to participate and contribute suggestions. Registration is not required for this event, but RSVPs are welcome.
EBA Energizer – FERC Jurisdictional Blurred Lines
Join the EBA Energy Commission on September 22nd for a discussion of how evolving markets impact FERC jurisdiction and how it is subject to challenge by other Federal/State agencies and market participants. Panel 1 will discuss FERC's jurisdiction as it relates to the CFTC, while Panel 2 will explore the intersection of Federal and State jurisdiction in a decentralizing power system. Non-EBA Event: 2015 Midwest Energy Policy Conference
Join the EBA and Missouri Energy Initiative in St. Louis on October 6th - 7th for the Midwest Energy Policy Conference. Energy researchers and policy experts will discuss relevant current issues specific to the Midwest, including the Clean Power Plan, Regional Transmission Organizations (RTOs) Seams, energy storage, and biomass. EBA Western Chapter 2nd Annual Canadian Program
The Energy Bar Association and its Western Chapter are pleased to bring you a full day panel discussion of key issues concerning international and domestic energy arbitration and regulatory proceedings. The program will be held Friday, October 9th at the Calgary Petroleum Club. The BASICS of Natural Gas Pipeline Ratemaking Course, offered by the New Mexico State University Center for Public Utilities and co-sponsored by the Energy Bar Association will be held October 11th – 15th at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. NMSU’s five-day Natural Gas Pipeline Ratemaking Course will provide hands-on, practical FERC rate case training to lawyers, pipeline employees, FERC staff, and other industry professionals who seek a basic understanding or a refresher on the principles of interstate gas pipeline ratemaking.
EBA Energizer – The FERC Audit & Enforcement Process
Please join the Energy Bar Association Young Lawyers Council, FERC Practice Committee and the Compliance and Enforcement Committee for a comprehensive overview of the FERC investigation and audit process on October 13th at 4:00pm. This course will cover how FERC chooses companies to audit, how practitioners can prepare their companies for an audit, and how to mitigate compliance risks.
EBA Northeast Chapter Event – Shaping the Utility of the Future
Join the Northeast Chapter of the Energy Bar Association for this event on Wednesday, October 14th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Shaping the utility of the future, the drive for resiliency and efficiency in retail energy markets and the impact on the wholesale market: A review of ongoing northeast proceedings which examine methods for increased utilization of innovative energy technology and infrastructure to create improved system reliability, resiliency and market efficiency. This event will examine ongoing state commission inquiries into how to better deploy technology resources into retail energy markets and how retail efficiencies might impact the larger wholesale market.
EBA Energizer: Locational Marginal Prices – Foundations and Frontiers
The EBA Electricity Committee invites you to attend this EBA Energizer on October 20th from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. The event will focus on a review and discussion of the Locational Marginal Prices (LMP) that underpin the electric markets throughout much of the US and Canada, and an analysis of how some States including New York, through its Reforming the Energy Vision initiative are proposing to expand the use of LMP to the distribution system. Attendees will gain an understanding of both the theory and arithmetic underlying LMP, and insight into its evolution.
EBA Energizer – Fundamental Insights on FPA Section 205/206 Filings
The Electricity Regulation Committee of the Energy Bar Association presents this one-hour luncheon on the basics of developing and administering filings under Sections 205 and 206 of the Federal Power Act. Lunch will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday, October 28th at the offices of Greenberg Traurig on L Street in Washington, D.C. Panelists will discuss the roles of law practitioners in developing and administering filings and present practical considerations and tips.
