Ta-da: Stimpmeter makeover

One of golf's most obscure and eccentric accessories is getting an update. After two years of internal development, the USGA has announced a new Stimpmeter, used for measuring green speeds. Unlike the old version, a 36-inch-long aluminum bar painted green, the new model is a 36-inch-long aluminum bar painted dazzling "USGA blue."
Aussie great Webb says women's game needs more backing

Karrie Webb recently made an impassioned plea for greater backing for women's golf in Australia and hoped people were not getting sick of her name. Webb can scarcely do any more herself. Can golf be saved by capitalism?

For over a decade golf participation, the percentage of the population who play, has been dropping. While 2012 had a slight increase over 2011 in rounds played, this number has dropped in most recent years. For several of the past few years, more courses have closed than opened in this country. None of these are signs of health and none bode well for the future.

The PGA golf professional and owner/operator of the Vassar Golf Course at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie has teed up on courses at some of the finest resorts in the country.
