Brigman reaches his goal, rallies for win in Columbus

D.J. Brigman trusted his gut Sunday. The 34-year old New Mexico native figured he needed to get to 10-under par to have a chance to win the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational. When early morning rains softened the famed Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University, Brigman knew he could start firing at flags in an effort to make up some ground on leader Nick Flanagan and a host of challengers. Brigman fired a 7-under 64 to reach 10-under par, good for a one-stroke victory and a big enough check that just might land him back on the PGA TOUR in 2011.More
Friends, Bethel community struggling with golfer Kyle Lewis' death

When he's not coaching golf at Bethel High School, Jason Crouch works as a Shawnee police officer. He deals with thieves and drug dealers. Abusive and malicious people. That's why Crouch can't make his mind rationalize what happened Monday evening, and why one of his closest friends is gone. Bethel golfer Kyle Lewis died Monday when his Chevrolet pickup left the road and struck a bridge embankment, not long after he competed in the All-State golf tournament in Broken Arrow.

The CPT/Laurel Springs Collegiate Open was played this week at the magnificent Laurel Springs course in Suwanee, GA. The men's yardage was 6850 with a par 71. Greg O'Connor of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Kennesaw State University was the first place champion. He played exceptional golf with a 5-under-par 208. Taylor Hall of Roswell, Ga., and Georgetown University came in second with a 215. Left-hander Eric Hodgson of Marietta, Ga., and Cumberland University shot a 221, good for third place.More
Colgate names Tyburski head golf coach
Colgate University Athletics
The Colgate University athletics department has named Keith Tyburski, the men's head golf coach. Tyburski served as the Raiders interim head coach last fall and led the team to a first-place finish at the Colgate Invitational. Tyburski, a native of Hamilton, graduated from Western Carolina in 2006 and played professionally on various mini circuits across the country.More
Bailey named Marquette men's golf coach

Marquette University announced the hiring of Steve Bailey as head men's golf coach on July 27, 2010. Bailey was formerly associate head men's golf coach at Northwestern University.
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Bailey served as associate head coach of the Wildcats since 2008. He arrived at Northwestern as an assistant coach in 2005 where he quickly established himself as a top recruiter of domestic and international talent. Bailey's recruiting classes have included six Junior All-Americans, state champions from Arizona, California and Ohio, and a top-10 recruiting class in 2008-09 as ranked by Golfweek.More
Adelphi University names Jantzen Vargas head golf coach

Jantzen Vargas has been named head golf coach by assistant vice president/director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell. The former Panther will replace Tim McAleer who resigned after two seasons with Adelphi.
Vargas had a very strong career with the Brown and Gold over his four years. He was named the East Coast Conference Golfer of the Year in 2007, while capturing the ECC championship Individual Title as well as the Long Island Intercollegiate Title.More
Scott Proshek named University of St. Thomas men's golf head coach

Scott Proshek has been elevated to head coach of the Tommie men's golf program.
Proshek, a Tommie assistant coach since 2006, replaces Dave Lepp, who resigned after four seasons due Coach picto additional duties as UST's athletic facilities manager. A 1979 St. Thomas graduate with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education, Proshek has coached in many capacities. The last five seasons he was head boys' golf coach at Shakopee (Minn.) High. He also coached four years of girls' varsity basketball at St. Louis Park High, and at various levels of boys' basketball at New Prague High.More
Buege captures final PGA Junior Series title

With a perfect summer day, the 2010 PGA Junior Series came to a close at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wis. The field of over 90 juniors from 15 different states competed in a 54-hole stroke play competition. McCabe Buege of Rogers, Minn., lead wire-to-wire to win the Boys' 16-18 Division. He is the first player this summer on the PGA Junior Series to have all three rounds in the sixties. He shot a 3-under-par 68 in the final round for a three day total of 9-under-par 204. With his win this week, Buege earned himself a spot at the 35th Junior PGA Championship later this summer in Fort Wayne, Ind., at Sycamore Hills Country Club.More
35th Junior PGA Champhioship to feature elite field

An elite field of junior golfers in both the girls' and boys' divisions will converge on Syacmore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., Aug. 2-5, for the 35th Junior PGA Championship.
"The 35th Junior PGA Championship will once again feature an extremely strong field in both the boys' and girls' divisions," said Allen Wronowski, Vice President of The PGA of America and Chairman of the Junior PGA Championship. "Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne will provide a great test of golf and we will crown two very deserving champions."
