May 16 GolfWorld/Nike Golf Coaches' Polls

Golf World has published the results of the most recent Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Polls of the spring. Texas (Division I), Barry (Division II), Methodist (Division III), Oklahoma Christian (NAIA), Meridian (NJCAA DI), and South Mountain (NJCAA DII) all remained atop their respective polls. This week marks the NCAA DII, NCAA DIII and NJCAA DI National Championships, as well as the NCAA DI Regionals. NAIA and NJCAA DII will play their championships next week.

Drama ruled the day Sunday at PGA Golf Club, as the University of Texas-Pan American took home the Men's Division I title and Bethune-Cookman University claimed its championship-record ninth team title in the Women's Team Division at the 26th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management.

Scholarship recipients named at PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship

Ten students were selected to receive a PGA/State Farm Insurance Scholarship as part of the 26th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management. Each year, students from participating schools in the championship are able to apply to receive scholarship awards from State Farm Insurance for their academic excellence at their respective institutions.

Postseason upsets could begin long before Riviera

With match-play competition again deciding who will be crowned NCAA men's champions, this week's regionals open the door for many teams to have a legitimate chance of winning it all in a couple of weeks at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. This marks the fourth year the match-play format will be used for the top eight teams, and in each of the past three years, the eventual winner was not an overwhelming favorite.

NGA's Brandon Brown looks to solidify status in BMW

Instead of defending his Cherry Blossom Classic championship, NGA Pro Golf Tour member Brandon Brown will be teeing it up in the Nationwide Tour's BMW Charity Pro-Am this week. If Brown can continue his solid play in the BMW, the former Eastern Kentucky standout will be in good position to earn status on the No. 2 tour following next week's reshuffle.

17-year-old Monyihan wins Irish Amateur Open

Gavin Moynihan captured his first individual Irish title May 13 as the student won the Irish Amatuer Open title at a wild Royal Dublin. Just 17 years old, the fifth-year student from Malahide Community School in Dublin, Ireland, controlled his golf in 45kph gusts at the Dollymout links to win by one from Robin Kind (Netherlands) and in doing so, becomes the youngest ever Irishman to win the title.

Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards to honor top juniors

Four of the top junior golfers in the world will be honored at the 2012 HP Byron Nelson Championship. The Salesmanship Club of Dallas announced that Wyndham Clark of Greenwood Village, Colo.; Ricky Kato of Cremorne, New South Wales (Australia); Matthew NeSmith of North Augusta, S.C.; and Cody Proveaux of Leesville, S.C., will receive the Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards.

TJGT keeps busy with 3 events

The TJGT was busy all across the state with three events last weekend. It was perfect weekend for golf with sunny weather with a light breeze. Check out the results from the TJGT Tapatio Springs Junior Championship at Tapatio Springs Golf & Resort in Boerne, Texas; the TJGT Wilderness Challenge at The Wilderness at Lake Jackson Golf Club in Lake Jackson, Texas; and the TJGT Bridlewood Junior Championship, played at the Bridelwood GC in Flower Mound, Texas.
