GolfWorld/Nike Golf Coaches' Polls announced

Golf World has published the results of the latest Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches' Polls. California (Division I), Nova Southeastern (Division II) and South Mountain (NJCAA DII) all retained the number one spots in their respective divisions. To see the full results click on the links above. With the Division III, NAIA and NJCAA Division I schools all competing this week in their respective national championships, no new polls were conducted for these divisions.

Bethune-Cookman men and women earn titles at PGA Minority CGC

It was an exciting final round at PGA Golf Club that included two playoffs, with both the men's and women's teams from Bethune-Cookman University claiming titles at the 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management. In the women's division, Bethune-Cookman captured the title in thrilling fashion. The Wildcats defeated the University of Texas-Pan American on the first playoff hole to claim their championship-record 10th overall title.

Hybl, Martin, Small have eyes on NCAA's, US Open

As Oklahoma men's golf coach Ryan Hybl turned in a 2-under 69 at Oak Tree National on May 6, he wasn't thinking about advancing to U.S. Open sectional qualifying or even about his glory days as a professional golfer. Hybl's mind quickly turned to Oklahoma's chances at the NCAA Championship, when he saw that one of his players, senior Abraham Ancer, had posted 66 that day.

Forecasting NCAA Men's Div. I Regionals

Lets call this Operation Best Guess. I went a modestly unfulfilling 15 of 24 on my Women's Regionals picks last week, being outpaced by two folks at that other weekly golf publication (kudos to Mr. Ringler and Ms. Baldry). I'd love to convincingly say that I will get my revenge this week with my selections for Men's Regionals, but well have you seen the field at each of the six sites?

Men's NCAA regional system working well

Postseason has arrived in Division I men's golf, and play begins May 16 at six regional sites. The six-regional format is now five years old, and seems to be working very well. That's largely because there are fewer teams, which ultimately means the six tournaments operate more smoothly. All teams now play in the same wave. That means that each teams is, for the most part, experiencing the same type of weather and playing conditions as opposed to 27 teams split between a morning and afternoon wave.

Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock, Texas hosts NJCAA DI Men's Golf Championship

The top players in NJCAA Division I men's golf will take to the Rawls Golf Course in Lubbock, Texas to compete for the 2013 national championship beginning May 14. Over 120 golfers from 28 NJCAA member colleges will be taking part in the four-day competition that concludes May 17. The event is being hosted by South Plains College and Lubbock Sports.

Indian Hills Community College, Iowa, has won the last two national championships in Division I men's golf and is looking to become the first team to win three straight since Central Alabama Community College's three-beat from 1999-2001.

Royal Liverpool to host 2019 Walker Cup

Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake has been named as the venue for the 2019 Walker Cup match. The 47th biennial match between the amateurs of Great Britain and Ireland and the USA will be played in September 2019 at Royal Liverpool as the Club celebrates the 150th anniversary of its foundation. Hoylake was the venue for a match between the USA and Great Britain in 1921 and the following year the first official Walker Cup match was played at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, New York.

GCAA interviews Riley Wheeldon from the NGA Pro Golf Tour

The Golf Coaches Association of America, in cooperation with its long-time corporate partner, the NGA Pro Golf Tour, will feature a monthly Q&A with former collegians who are currently playing the NGA Tour. This month we speak with Riley Wheeldon. The Canadian-born golfer played collegiately at the University of Louisville and joined the NGA Tour in 2011. Wheeldon was named Big East Player of the Year while at Louisville. Earlier this year he had his first victory on the NGA TOUR at the Kandy Waters Memorial Classic, and has made 26 of 31 cuts in his career.

Expert Panel makes picks for NGA's Cherry Blossom Classic presented by Modern Distributors
Defending champion Rick Cochran III has done it all this week. He started the weekend with an interview on the "Weekend Golf Guys" and followed that up by participating in the Cherry Blossom Shootout (an event he also won last year). He then immediately proceeded to the Georgetown College NGA Junior Clinic the moment he was eliminated from the shootout.

It's only fitting in the heart of horse country that Rick Cochran III is hoping to meld together a pair of attributes this week that produce the best of thoroughbreds. After starting his NGA TOUR career as more of a "sprinter" and spending the bulk of the 2013 season as a "stayer," the Paducah, Ky., native is looking to pair the powers this week to defend his Cherry Blossom Classic title.

Lingmerth battles Woods, Garcia to the wire at The Players

In a modern day "David" vs. Goliath scenario, 2012 Web.com Tour graduate David Lingmerth went down to the wire with the world's No. 1 player Tiger Woods and No. 13 Sergio Garcia at The Players. With a five-year exemption and $1.71 million first prize on the line, the 25-year-old Swede, who entered the week 162nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, nearly holed a greenside bunker shot for eagle at the par-5 16th and ran an eight-foot birdie putt by the edge on No. 17.

TJGT Mother's Day Weekend 'Triple-Header'

It was another busy weekend on the TJGT with yet another famous "TJGT Triple-Header". Over 200 junior golfers from several states and Mexico battled it out across the state on a beautiful Mother's Day weekend. First up the TJGT Wilderness Challenge was played at The Wilderness Golf Course Lake Jackson May 11-12 2013.

Raccoon Creek Event Recap

Mother's Day weekend was spectacular in Littleton Colorado which was the location of the 4th Annual Raccoon Creek OPEN. 82 players from throughout the region tested their skills where the established landscape provides some challenging elevations and water hazards for the experienced golfer. Each division winner was either a new member or had their first win for the 2013 season for this event.
