The Rory McIlroy/Graeme McDowell effect could take the Open Championship back to Royal Portrush, R&A chief executive Peter Dawson said. The Northern Ireland course staged the game's oldest major in 1951, when flamboyant Max Faulkner won on the only occasion the championship has been held off the British mainland. There have been noises about taking the championship back to Portrush ever since. More

Chris Williams of Moscow, Idaho held off the hard charging field to win the 18th Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. Williams, a 2011 U.S. Open qualifier, took the lead yesterday afternoon and finished off posting a 72-hole total of 1-under par 287 to capture his first Sahalee Players victory. More

After struggling on the front nine, Corbin Mills came from behind to shoot 4 birdies on the back nine for a final round 72. Arizona State names Tim Mickelson head golf coach

Tim Mickelson, who had led the University of San Diego to the school's first three NCAA appearances in program history, has been named the head coach of the Arizona State University men's golf program. Mickelson, who has earned West Coast Conference Coach of the Year honors four times, becomes the 13th coach in the history of the program. More

Scott Lieberwirth tabbed as UTEP men's golf coach

Scott Lieberwirth, who led New Mexico State to six conference championships and six NCAA Regional appearances, has been named men's golf coach at UTEP. Lieberwirth spent eight years as head coach of the Aggies, engineering league titles in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He is a five-time conference coach of the year. More

The women's yardage was 5972 with a par 72, Patricia Holt of Bowling Green State University won the women's division. 15 IN 16 WEEKS – The Chiquita Classic initiates a string of 15 tournaments over the next 16 weeks that culminates at the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island in Charleston, S.C. Oct. 27-30. Last year, 12 players played their way out of "The 25" over the final 15 events. Of the 12 who replaced them one (Steven Bowditch) came from as far back as No.145 on the money list. Five others were 68th or higher on the money list in mid July. No doubt, aggressive play will be the order of the day over the next three months.

PGA Junior Series: Penn State University

The final round of the PGA Junior Series event at Penn State University's Blue Course in State College, Pa., had a great finish by all players in the field. With intermittent rain in the morning and moderate winds in the afternoon, this created a challenge for the golfers on the course. Ryan Celano of Naples, Fla., finished the tournament at the top of the leaderboard shooting a 75 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 217 to win in the Boys 16-18 division. More

Darland defeats Lapa in playoff to capture Boys Division title at AJGA Lubbock Junior

Tad Darland of Henderson, Nev., and Kolton Lapa of Mesa, Ariz., needed 19 holes to determine a winner in the Boys Division of the AJGA Lubbock Junior. After 54 holes, Darland and Lapa were knotted at 12-under-par 204. One sudden-death hole later, Darland tapped in for par to win in his final AJGA event. Coming from four strokes back, Allie Johnston of Castle Rock, Colo., carded a 4-under-par 68 to win the Girls Division with a tournament total of 213. More

Ghim solidifies win in the final round at Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands

Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, Ill., finished at 11-under par 205 to take the win at the Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands. In the Girls Division, Ashley Armstrong of Flossmoor, Ill., carded an 8-under-par 208 tournament total to take her first AJGA win in her last AJGA event. The Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands was a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at Boyne Highlands Resort — Moor Course in Harbor Springs, Mich. More

Aussie takes TJGT Allen Samuels Cowyboys Junior Championship title

The TJGT Allen Samuels Cowboys Jr. Championship was played at the Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas on July 11-12. The Boys 16-18 played 6,731 yards; the Boys 12-15 played 6,386 yards; and all Girls 12-18 played 5,528 yards in this 36-hole, Golfweek-ranked event. Close to 100 players teed it up in temperatures that exceeded 100 degrees both days. The event had an international flavor with players from Texas, Australia, and Mexico and the coach from the University of Texas at Dallas was in attendance scouting the competition. More
