Poe named US Palmer Cup coach

Tim Poe of Central Missouri has been named the Unites States Coach for the 2011 Palmer Cup at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played June 9-11. Poe has been the University of Central Missouri head golf coach for 20 years and has built the Mules' golf program into one of the best in the nation. He was named the Division II Dave Williams Award winner presented by Eaton Golf Pride as national coach of the year. More

The First Tee and Golf Coaches Association of America form partnership
The First Tee and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) have formed a partnership to collaborate on various programs and initiatives to promote youth development through the game of golf. The First Tee and GCAA will work together to facilitate the relationship between men’s golf coaches and Chapters of The First Tee in an effort to promote high school graduation rates, college preparation and to communicate college golf opportunities. The year was 1983 and Tom Stine, owner of the upstart Golfweek, hatched an idea that was designed to grow the audience for the magazine and increase its importance in the golf industry. He would begin covering college golf, a previously overlooked, backwater part of the game. Stine was the architect of the strategy, and he selected a small-town sportswriter to be the builder. Almost 30 years later, that builder, Ron Balicki, will be inducted into the College Golf Association of America Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, the first non-coach to receive this recognition. More

Scott Verplank named Silver Anniversary winner

Former Oklahoma State golf standout Scott Verplank was named one of six recipients of the Silver Anniversary Award it was announced recently by the NCAA. Given annually, the honor recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers. More

Q-School: 29 players earned 2011 TOUR cards

The six-day, 108-hole marathon that is q-school came to a conclusion Monday with Billy Mayfair claiming medalist honors. A total of 29 players finished well enough to secure TOUR cards for next season. Follow the 'MORE' link to view a list of those players. More

AJGA announces new partnership with Cleveland County

The Cleveland County HealthCare Foundation and the Cleveland County Sports Commission will show their support of junior golf in North Carolina by hosting an American Junior Golf Association tournament in 2011. The new partnership will contribute to the overall mission of all three organizations. "The AJGA is excited to partner with the Cleveland County community," said Jason Etzen, AJGA Chief Business Officer. "Thanks to the Cleveland County Sports Commission and the Cleveland County HealthCare Foundation, we will be able to provide a great playing opportunity for our members in the North Carolina area." The TJGT River Ridge I-10 Shootout began as a warm Houston TJGT summer like event and ended with a reminder to all competitiors that winter is on the way. Mean, blistery, damp, cold marked the second day of competition. The chill was not enough to cool off the hot hand of Cody Hebert who aced the par 3 sixth hole on the River 9, his 17th hole of the day. Travis Dennis shot even par on day one but was unable to withstand the charge of TJGT Veteran Eric Redeker who took the top spot in the boys 16-18. More
