From Oct. 5: A Portland, Oregon, USA, man pinned by a forklift in a refrigerated warehouse was pulled from the accident without a pulse, then revived by arriving Portland Fire Bureau paramedics. Walmart's world beating freezer cold store

From Sept. 14: Walmart has a new 46,000-square-meter freezer distribution hub on a ten hectare site at Hunter Park in Newport Beach, California, USA. The building, completed in 10 months, is claimed to be one of the largest cold storage facilities in the world holding up to 60,000 pallets, stacked seven high and able to be chilled to -23 degrees Celsius. From Oct. 12: A major U.S. food distributor has purchased 35 newly cleaned-up acres, with plans to build a 500,000-square-foot facility employing 250 to 300. US Foods — which bills itself as the nation's 10th largest private company, with about 25,000 employees and nearly $19 billion in annual revenue — plans to build a cold storage facility that will serve as a regional operations center. With this purchase, Cloverleaf now operates more than 63 million cubic feet of refrigerated warehouse space in facilities spanning the nation's prime protein producing area of the Midwest and South Atlantic states. Fuel cell use on the rise in food industry

From Nov. 9: In a little more than a year, 34 corporate customers have installed, deployed or purchased more than 250 fuel cell power systems and hundreds of backup power units, totaling more than 30 MW of power, plus more than 1,000 fuel cell-powered forklifts. "The Business Case for Fuel Cells 2011: Energizing America's Top Companies," a new report released by Fuel Cells 2000, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, USA, profiles 24 new corporate fuel cell customers and revisits 10 companies that have installed or ordered additional systems for several North American locations since last year. Interstate Warehousing plans expansion

From Nov. 9: A Franklin, Indiana, USA, warehousing company plans to double its size and hire 75 new workers over the next three years. Interstate Warehousing, a refrigerated warehousing company located in the Franklin Tech Park east of Interstate 65, is planning to invest $39 million in an expansion of its facility. The facility is currently 420,000 square feet, and the expansion would double the size, according to paperwork the company filed with the city. More
