Accompanying the Global Top 25 is the IARW North American Top 25 List. Companies on both lists reported increased capacity. The Global Top 25 currently operates 3.15 billion cubic feet (89.28 million cubic meters) — an impressive 7 percent increase from 2011. The North American Top 25 currently operates 2.57 billion cubic feet (72.82 million cubic meters) — a 2 percent increase from 2011.

How does your facility's age compare to national benchmarks?

IARW is currently soliciting responses to the 2012 IARW Productivity and Benchmarking Report. In addition to capturing financial and performance benchmarks for the North American public refrigerated warehousing industry, the survey also collects data about facility age and design. In the 2010 IARW Productivity and Benchmarking Report, approximately 19 percent of facilities surveyed were less than 10 years old, 52 percent were 20 years old or less, and 40 percent were more than 30 years old. How will your facilities compare in 2012? Find out by participating in the 2012 survey. All participants will receive a complimentary copy of the report, which is worth $1,000. Responses are due by May 31.

Connie Says: State of the market

Lockton Companies, the official IARW Insurance Service Partner, recently published an overview of the state of the property/casualty insurance industry. According to the report, the property/casualty insurance industry turned in a mixed performance during the 2011 year. Although profitability declined amid high catastrophe losses and reduction in the flow of excess loss reserves, premium growth is accelerating, investment earnings were more robust than anticipated and policyholders’ surplus declined only modestly (4.6 percent as of September 2011) from its all-time record high of $564.7 billion set as of March 2011. Fundamentally, the property/casualty insurance industry remains quite strong financially with capital adequacy ratios remaining high relative to long-term historical averages. The outlook for 2012 is a cautious one given continued high catastrophe losses and uncertainty in the investment markets. Economic growth is expected to accelerate modestly due to increasing consumer confidence with spending and investments. As exposures grow, demand for commercial insurance is expected to increase.

Impact of consumer grocery trends on the cold chain

Green, fresh, local to describe the types of food more people are buying.
