The National Geospatial Advisory Committee recently prepared a white paper entitled: "Toward A National Geospatial Strategy: Recommendations from the National Geospatial Advisory Committee." Building on and reinforcing key recommendations and products developed by the NGAC during the past five years, the report describes the value of geospatial technology in promoting economic growth and enabling cost savings — key considerations during the 2013-2016 presidential term. More

With electricity use growing at less than 1 percent per year, power companies are "scrambling to trim spending or redirect capital investments to improve profits," the Wall Street Journal reported. Some have started building new high-voltage transmission lines, which offer a higher than average return. At the same time demand is falling, costs are going up, according to Forbes Magazine. More

A video shows all edits made to the OpenStreetMap project in 2012. OpenStreetMap is a free geographic database that anyone can edit; it's like the wikipedia of mapping data. This animation shows all additions and modifications of nodes (flashes) and cumulative edits (fading to purple) in 2012. Additional visualizations are the redaction bot's work (flying away yellow spheres) and the shift to ODbL (green flash). More

Galileo E6 signal tracking announced by JAVAD GNSS

An announcement on the JAVAD GNSS website states "On December 21, 2012, we have tracked E6 B/C signal from all launched Galileo satellites, using TRE-G3T-E E6-band capable receiver. The following graphs shows SNR and 'code-minus-phase' combination of svn #11 (sat #81 on graph), svn #12 (sat #82), svn #19 (sat #89) and svn #20 (sat #90). C/A stands for E1, P2 for E5B, CL2 for E6, L5 for E5A." More
