Having settled its lawsuits against a trio of GPS receiver manufacturers, would-be broadband provider New LightSquared is now pointing to those settlements to support its assertion that it is fully addressing GPS interference issues.
The settlements, which were described as "Coexistence Agreements" in a letter filed with the FCC, set power limits that the company must ask to incorporate into its FCC license.

The Electric Power Research Institute is taking the lead with several utilities on a three-year collaboration to investigate the end-to-end grid integration of solar photovoltaic generation, energy storage, load management, and solar forecasting.
EPRI will collaborate with FirstEnergy, New York Power Authority, Con Edison, Southern Company and subsidiary Gulf Power to develop and demonstrate these integrated technologies in their service territories.

EDRS-A, the first relay satellite in the SpaceDataHighway program, will be launched to geostationary orbit on Jan. 28. The SpaceDataHighway will provide high speed laser communications in space of up to 1.8 Gigabit per second. This major program, which cost nearly €500M to develop, is the result of a public-private partnership between the European Space Agency and Airbus Defence and Space.

The fifth satellite in the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System constellation lifted off on time Jan. 20 from Satish Dhawan Space Center on Sriharikota Island, on India's east coast.
As in the previous four launches of IRNSS satellites, the navigation satellite rode aboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. This is the 33rd launch for the PSLV.
