It was 20 years before Mark Ventola, now a sergeant with the North Brunswick Police Department, fulfilled a promise to his parents to return to college. In 1979, he left Indiana State University to realize his dream to become a police officer. His studies were put aside until 1999, when he resumed his college career, earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Caldwell College, followed by a master's in human resources training and development from Seton Hall University. He plans to add a doctorate in education after he retires this year from a rewarding career with the police force.
