IACET to Have Big Presence at ATD International Conference & Expo
The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) will have a big presence as this event. In fact, in addition to having a booth in the expo hall for attendees to learn about IACET and the accreditation process, IACET is also sponsoring a reception for Certified Professionals in Learning and Performance (CPLP©), individuals who have demonstrated their expertise in learning and performance through a knowledge exam and competency-based work product. The CPLP designation is administered by the ATD Certification Institute and is the prominent individual certification for professionals in our field.

What does storytelling in training look like?
Training Industry
Storytelling in training is becoming a hot topic, although often misunderstood and misapplied. To understand how to create an effective, compelling story in training, let's first look at what it isn't. A tweet or a long monologue from a trainer is not exactly a story, nor is an anecdote, or opening joke. However, they can all be part of the storytelling process, depending on how you use them. Training and storytelling is not a plug and play model. A pithy line may entertain or make an insight easier to remember, but to be remembered forever, a story must not only connect emotionally, but also connect to the right emotions. Advertisers are aware of this and work hard to connect to two fundamental emotions: greed and social acceptance. Political advertisers often stir up fear as the emotion to motivate.

Online training made easier with video
To emphasize how powerful online training is as a tool to educate not only employees but customers and partners, Ziff Davis and Citrix Systems have combined to publish a whitepaper on the topic. "In general, any sort of program with strong audio and/or visual elements as well as those which require greater retention and engagement will benefit tremendously by adding an appropriate amount of video to their new or existing online training program," the whitepaper notes.

Lifelong learners in a rapidly changing world
The Huffington Post
Whether college, high school, elementary school, or preschool age, today's students are going to face challenges heretofore unknown. The pace of change is accelerating, and it's estimated that 70 percent of them will end up in jobs not yet invented. They will collaborate with people on multiple continents, struggling to solve problems we don't yet recognize. How do we educate students to thrive in this rapidly changing world? Community, collaboration, and diversity are vitally important. Few work in isolation anymore. The world faces complex challenges far too large to be solved without the cooperative skills necessary to work in groups and across boundaries.
