Venues at risk for severe weather, prepare now!

During 2011, a number of venues were threatened by severe weather events. The International Association of Venue Managers is offering a specialized course about Severe Weather Preparedness, Feb. 28-29, at the National Weather Center in Norman, Okla. Click here to view the tornado risk map.More

Submit nominations by Feb. 15 for the 2012 IAVM Foundation Legacy Award

The IAVM Foundation Legacy Award may be awarded annually by the board of trustees to an individual or organization that, in the opinion of the IAVM Foundation, has made a significant financial or nonfinancial contribution to benefit the foundation's mission and objectives. The foundation executive director will provide evidence the nominee meets the criteria. To be eligible for the nomination, nominees can be a member of IAVM or may be from outside the association in a related field. More

IAVM China attracts venue managers to Winter Workshop

IAVM China recently held a Winter Workshop that drew some 15 professional venue managers from the Beijing Olympic Park Administration Committee, which includes the National Convention Center, National Tennis Center, Bird's Nest Stadium, and Water Cube.

The president and CEO says: The lifeblood of IAVM is its members, and we'd like to take your pulse! Let us know how we're doing by taking a couple of minutes to respond to the 12 question survey. As far as checkups go, I promise it will be quick and painless, and it will give us some much needed feedback and direction, as well as a baseline to measure against in the coming months. Sometime in the fall we expect to do a more comprehensive checkup, but for now, just a quick "say ah" will do.More

Melillo will discuss in detail how the Brooklyn Academy of Music approaches the relationship between the performance space, the artists and their work, and the audience through programming and operations. Don Freeman receives PCMA Lifetime Achievement Award

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Professional Convention Management Association and the meetings and convention industry, PCMA honored Donald S. Freeman Jr., chairman of Freeman, with the PCMA Lifetime Achievement Award. Freeman accepted the honor during the general session at the 2012 PCMA annual meeting, Convening Leaders, in San Diego. More

University of Tulsa upgrades Donald W. Reynolds Center with Daktronics system

Daktronics Inc. recently manufactured and installed a new high definition video display system in the Donald W. Reynolds Center, home of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes. This system is one of just a few indoor systems in college athletics to feature high-definition LED video. University of Tulsa’s new four-sided high definition video and scoring system replaced its old centerhung display. These video displays will provide instant replays and statistical information to keep every Hurricane fan and athlete in the game.
