ETBMICE    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Major sporting fixtures are back on the agenda for Christchurch, New Zealand, as the city celebrates the opening of a new $30 million stadium. Built in record time thanks to a round-the-clock construction effort, the stadium will be the home ground for the successful Super XV rugby franchise, the Crusaders, but also will be available for other sporting codes, outdoor concerts and events. The stadium can hold 18,000 for regular matches, 25,000 for international test matches and 34,000 for concerts. The stadium was officially opened over the weekend when a capacity crowd of 18,000 packed into the venue to watch the Crusaders narrowly defeat the Cheetahs in their first home game since May 2010. Performing Arts Center: Pinehurst's Field of Dreams?
The Pilot    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
When thinking about the proposed multimillion-dollar Performing Arts Center for Pinehurst, one is reminded of the famous line from "Field of Dreams," the iconic 1989 baseball film: "If you build it, they will come." (That's usually misquoted; the actual movie line from Ray Kinsella’s novel, "Shoeless Joe Jackson," is: "If you build it, he will come.") For the privately conceived Pinehurst Performing Arts Center now being researched at public cost, a big question to be answered is: Will enough music and theater aficionados be motivated to travel considerable distances to Pinehurst to enjoy the first-class entertainment contemplated? Will they come? More

Insurance Insight    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The London 2012 Olympic Games will have a significant and positive impact on the UK and its businesses, but companies will need to give careful consideration to the effect on their day-to-day operations. In particular, Jan Auerbach writes that sge read that only one-third of U.K. businesses have begun to prepare for the potential impact on their supply chain. Careful planning has a clear role to play in enabling companies to mitigate supply disruption risks, while maximizing the opportunities that come with the sharp increase in foot traffic. More

KMRG    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Outside of New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville, Tenn., a recent article chooses Tulsa, Okla., as one of the top 10 best live music cities in the nation. The article appears on the "Livability" website. The presence of musical venues old and storied, like Cain's Ballroom and the Brady Theater, combined with new venues like the Hard Rock Casino and the BOK Center, provides the lure that attracts top-rated acts to the area. Catch Frank Abagnale while you can at VenueConnect 2012 in Fort Lauderdale
IAVM    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
This year's VenueConnect keynote claims to have assumed no fewer than eight separate identities, impersonating an airline pilot, doctor, Bureau of Prisons agent, and a lawyer. He also claims that he escaped police custody, not only once, but twice. What could this person possibly have in common with venue professionals? "We all play multiple roles in our venues, so this may sound like your average venue manager — but it actually describes Frank Abagnale, security consultant and inspiration for the film and Broadway musical Catch Me If You Can," said John Bolton, CFE, this year's VenueConnect chair.
