Market research professional Frank Ingoglia has been hired as the new IAVM Foundation grant-funded research manager. Ingoglia began Dec. 5 and reports to Dana Glazier, CAE, director of research, on the IAVM Foundation grant-funded research project, VenueDataSource. Ingoglia has more than 30 years of hands-on management experience at several major market research firms.

 In fall 2009, arena and theater consultant Trizart Alliance was presented with an immense challenge by the general manager of Evenko, Jacques Aubé, and Live Nation Global Touring's chief executive, Arthur Fogel: Find an alternative to the inoperable Olympic Stadium for a one night U2 performance in Montréal in July 2010. Given the scale of the show and the number of seats involved, Pierre Lemieux of Trizart spontaneously suggested that they build a temporary stadium, from the ground up, expressly for the event. This marked the beginning of a challenging journey which would lead to the most important "paying" show in Canada, attracting more than 162,000 spectators.

Qena McCarty, a woman entrepreneur participant in the Texas State University RampCorp Program, has partnered with GSC Architects to develop best practice lactation room designs (and products) for workplace and public facilities needing to comply with PPACA. The groups will host a free market research event on lactation accommodation in facilities from 10-11:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at the GSC Architect office in Austin, Texas.

Oregon Convention Center opens new Portland Roasting Cafe

 The Oregon Convention Center recently cut the ribbon and opened the first of two brand new cafes operated by Roast Magazine's 2012 Macro Roaster of the Year, Portland Roasting Coffee. The new cafe was designed with the Pacific Northwest aesthetic in mind; a large slab of reclaimed Oregon old-growth fir frames the entrance and also serves as the platform for tables and the coffee bar inside. Portland Roasting Coffee's second OCC cafe is scheduled to open in early 2012.

$11.25 million puts Pinnacle name on Lincoln, Neb., arena

Husker basketball fans now can hope their teams will play king of the mountain at the future Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pinnacle Bank announced it will pay $11.25 million to put its name on the sports and entertainment complex in downtown Lincoln, Neb. The venue is scheduled to open in 2013.

London Olympics doubles spending on security to $870 million

The United Kingdom government doubled its security budget for the London Olympics to 553 million pounds ($870 million) after a review found more staff was needed for next year's games. The increase won't force organizers to change the overall Olympic and Paralympic budget, according to a government quarterly report. The new budget will pay for 23,700 security personnel, up from the original 10,000, and the associated recruiting and training costs. They will guard more than 100 venues, the government said.
