Exhibitors at Produce Marketing Association trade shows will see big savings over the next five years on exhibition costs as a result of a new contract between PMA and its official convention services provider, Global Experience Specialists. Of particular interest to the perishable produce and floral industry, all fresh product delivery and pick-up will automatically be free for Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition exhibitors, and available to PMA's Foodservice Convention & Exposition exhibitors. Broad restrictions canceling flights to the U.S. in the past five days due to the erupting volcano in Iceland has cost the U.S. economy $650 million, according to the U.S. Travel Association. This spending supports 6,000 U.S. jobs. The loss to the economy -- averaging $130 million per day -- vividly illustrates how the world has come to depend on travel for tourism and business of all kinds, and demonstrates the importance of policymakers acting on facts and retaining a measured response to crises, said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. An international study published in March on the future of meetings, venues and destinations predicts that face-to-face meetings will change drastically in the next ten years. Conducted by Fast Future Research, survey findings from Convention 2020 reveal that meeting planners believe meetings and conventions will be scaled down in size, more specialized and much more high-tech.
