The meetings environment is moving into a "new norm" thanks to signs pointing out that the recession has ended. Smith Travel Research (STR), for one, reported in March that hotels are rebounding, as the U.S. Hotel Industry Leading Indicator (a composite leading indicator that, on average, leads the industry's business activity four to five months in advance) rose by an annual rate of 12.6 percent in January and by 12.2 percent in February. The U.S. Department of Transportation proposed a host of new airline passenger protections slated for enactment in about six months, including new provisions to increase compensation for passengers bumped from flights, allow airfare bookers to hold fares before final purchase for 24 hours and require carriers to more prominently display baggage fees and more fully quote fares through various channels. CIC Hall of Leaders Nominations

CIC is now accepting nominations for the 2011 Class of Inductees for the CIC Hall of Leaders. Since 1985, the CIC has honored the industry's outstanding leaders and innovators with its bi-annual Hall of Leaders awards. Only those who have substantively contributed to the industry and whose efforts continue to shape it qualify for nomination. Nominations are submitted either by CIC member organizations or the general industry community.

The next Gala will be held sometime mid to late next year. The final details are still being worked out. In the meantime, we need you to promote the call for nominations to your board or other nominating body. An organization is limited to one nomination. We would also appreciate it if you would promote the call for nominations to the general industry in your publications. A press release will be distributed.
