Newly redesigned IECVotes.com site launched in January

IEC's grassroots action site, www.iecvotes.com, has been redesigned to make the site easier to use and give it a crisper look. Through IECVotes.com, IEC members can to contact their federal representatives when a key issue arises in Congress. In 2009, IEC members sent more than 7,700 emails to Congress on the Employee Free Choice Act, health care reform and other priority issues. The site also features voter registration resources and will have updates on 2010 election activities. There is also regularly updated stories from around the county on the latest political and industry news. New to the site this year is the ability to look up biographical and contact information on your elected officials and candidates for office.
IEC will send out grassroots Action Alerts when the need arises, however please check the site frequently for updates legislative and election information. More
The Home Depot pledges $1 million for student scholarships and grants for building and construction trade schools

The Home Depot ®, the world's largest home improvement retailer, announced $1 million in funding for its 2010 Pro Trade Scholarship Program. The Home Depot has more than tripled a $300,000 scholarship fund it first established in 2009 to support students attending professional building and construction trade schools.

Senate health care bill singles out construction industry

Contractors are flabbergasted over a provision in the U.S. Senate's version of the health care bill that singles out the construction industry for a special rule. The bill says any business with 50 or more employees must provide health insurance or be subject to a $750 fine per worker. Construction companies are the one exception to this rule.
