California has approved and upheld the state's first solar installation apprenticeship program. The California Apprenticeship Council voted 13-4 to reject an appeal filed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to block the state's approval of the program. IEC Foundation announces 2010 Special Grant Awards to chapters for tuition assistance IEC Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
The IEC Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of its 2010 Special Grants competition to provide tuition assistance to deserving students. Nine IEC chapters were awarded grants of $1,000 each, two sets of student books (donated by IEC National), and 2 sets of journeymen toolkits (donated by Klein Tools). Chapters were required to submit application for these grants based on two students from their chapter who are in hardship situations and the prospect of continuing their apprenticeship education this year would not have been possible. In addition, eight additional chapters not awarded a full grant were provided with one set of Klein journeyman tools. More

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration today cited three construction companies and 14 site contractors for 371 alleged workplace safety violations, and proposed $16.6 million dollars in penalties, following an investigation into the causes of February's deadly natural gas explosion at the Kleen Energy Systems LLC power plant construction site in Middletown, Conn. The explosion took the lives of six workers and injured 50 others. More
