The IEC Foundation receives capital grant IEC Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Independent Electrical Contractors Foundation has received a $5,000 capital grant from The Trull Foundation to support apprenticeship training in Harlingen, Texas (IEC Rio Grande). In 1967 Florence M. Trull and her children established The Trull Foundation. For more than 60 years this foundation has been actively interested in various educational, religious, cultural and social programs, the majority of which have been in the State of Texas. The Trull Foundation continues to be concerned with people, with improving the quality of life, especially for those living in poor or oppressed conditions. More
OSHA publishes cranes and derricks final rule EHS Today Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
It's been in the works for years and has finally come to life: On July 28, OSHA announced it is issuing a new final rule for cranes and derricks in construction. The agency estimates the new rule will prevent 22 fatalities and 175 injuries each year. The new rule, which has been in the works for years and replaces a decades-old standard, will be published in the Federal Register Aug. 9. It will go into effect 90 days later, on Nov. 8. Approximately 267,000 construction, crane rental and crane certification establishments employing about 4.8 million workers will be affected by the rule, OSHA said.

A federal jury has awarded more than $200,000 to a Madison, Wis., secretary who claims her union harassed her after she supported a black applicant. Susan Blue says a black electrician was denied admission to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 159 in 2005. She says a white electrician was admitted around the same time. Blue says she was subjected to harassment after she objected. She says her boss limited her duties and twice suspended her for five days. More
