Concerns arise as towns share inspectors

Many local governments in northern New Jersey are merging building inspection services to save money, but some experts in the field warn the practice could ultimately threaten public safety. "More and more towns are firing their building inspectors or building code officials and replacing them with people who cover four towns at the same time," said John Buonanno, a former Elmwood Park construction official. "They are being stretched too thin and they may miss things." More
