Structural steel for the 1,776-foot tower that will be known as One World Trade Centre has risen 200 feet above street level in a tangible sign of ground zero progress since the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Workers are now installing 16 steel nodes on the 20th-floor level which serve as joints between the steel framing for the building's podium and the steel for the rest of the tower. The 104-story skyscraper is due to be completed in 2013. More

GreenerBuildings    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Call them the two greatest challenges now facing American businesses: companies must not only survive the great recession of today, but must strategically position themselves for the green economy of tomorrow. The bad news is that the pressure to perform flawlessly on both scores is greater than ever. The good news is that there are ways to do both for the short-, medium- and long-term, saving money while also reducing a company's overall carbon footprint. Telecommuting Requires Adjustments
The Associated Press via The Star-Ledger    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Call it the workplace of the future: your home. One way companies are downsizing is to have employees work at home. When staffers telecommute, businesses can save money by moving to smaller quarters or consolidating separate locations into one. Many workers are glad to have the opportunity. They join the people who have been telecommuting by choice ever since computers and high-speed Internet connections made working at home easier. Telecommuting can give employees a better work-life balance, and they save time and money when they're not traveling to work and buying coffee and lunch.
