calling while on the clock.
Such indiscretions often went undetected by company management everywhere but the most secure and highly proprietary companies or governmental agencies. Not anymore. More

Behind China's Zero-energy Skyscraper
CNN
Share

The Holy Grail of modern architecture is to design a zero-energy building or ZEB. ZEBs use solar, wind and
geothermal systems to produce at least as much energy as they tap from the grid. In some cases, a building's owner can sell the excess electricity generated by the structure back to its utility, reducing overall demand for power generated by coal and other greenhouse gas-emitting plants. Yet ask any architect and you'll get an earful on the design challenges of ZEBs. In fact, there are only eight nonresidential ZEBs in the U.S.—all of them tiny. That didn't deter Chicago-based architecture
firm SOM from trying. It designed the Pearl River Tower, a 71-story skyscraper in Guangzhou, China, that will open this fall.

China Still Holds Commanding Lead in Global Clean Tech Race
GreenBiz

China's production of
scientific knowledge is now second only to the U.S. It is the top manufacturer of both solar photovoltaic and solar hot water heaters, and was also the largest installer of new wind farms in 2009. Over the next 10 years, China may dump a staggering US$660 billion into its clean energy build-out. But while China is leading the global clean tech race, the competition isn't over, according to research firm Clean Edge.

Free Coffee Can Caffeinate Workplace Morale
The Boston Globe

Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 report spending an estimated US$440 a year and log more than 38 hours of time toward purchasing coffee and tea during the work week. So concludes a survey commissioned by Keurig Inc. One focus of the survey was to get
input on how to improve the mood of the workplace. Not surprisingly perhaps, the survey finds that free joe can have a salubrious effect on cubicle morale—under the right circumstances, complimentary caffeine can cause even the most cynical of drudges and drones to whistle while they work.
