Hotel hiring rebounds as US tourism overcomes slump

Jobless Americans are using increased tourism as a pathway back to employment, finding jobs at hotels and motels as those facilities step up hiring to meet growing demand. "With more people on the road, we'll need more people working in hotels," said Jan Freitag, a senior vice president at Smith Travel Research Inc. He cited a 4.1 percent increase in first-quarter hotel bookings from a year ago as a "very positive sign" that U.S. tourism is rebounding. More

IHG expands hotel-soap recycling program

Holiday Inn parent IHG significantly is expanding its hotel toiletry recycling program, the company told USA Today. Sixty-two IHG-brand hotels participate in the program, which is run by Clean the World. But soon, IHG officials expect most of its 3,274 hotels in the U.S. and Canada to join in recycling hotel guests' leftover bars of soap and bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Clean the World recycles and distributes used hotel soaps, lotions and shampoos to needy families in U.S. shelters and around the world.More
