The IIDA Foundation has opened and is currently seeking entries for the 1st Annual Wilsonart Essay Competition. This competition — open to Student Members who participated in IIDA Student Mentoring Week — invites entrants to submit original essays about their mentoring experiences. The winning essay will earn a $1,000 prize for its author.

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation, formed to address environmental concerns within North America's free-trading nations, stated the need for "a lasting and achievable vision" of green buildings. The vision for Canada, the United States and Mexico includes the creation of stakeholder task forces in each country, targets to build net zero-energy buildings and the promotion of private sector financing.
