Designers talk color and clients
Design Curial
A panel of interiors experts from all corners of the industry came together for the recent FX Design Seminar on Color to talk color, styles, and trends. The issue of winning the client's confidence was agreed by most as a key challenge. There are nevertheless plenty of reasons to be cheerful for designers working in interiors now, as the scope for being creative is broadening in both commercial and residential schemes, with clients and consumers increasingly prepared to go bold with color.

Philippe Starck: LED technology means designers are 'obliged to redesign all lights'
Dezeen
Philippe Starck has spoken about the pros and cons of technology, saying that designers are morally obliged to use the latest materials to create more efficient products — but warned that dependence on screen-based devices is "sick." "I don't want to look archaic, but you have to feel things, you have to live them," the French designer told Dezeen. "On the screen you don't feel it. You read it, you see it but you don't feel it. It's superficial." However, Starck rejected the notion put forward by furniture designer Hella Jongerius earlier this year that designers should stop creating new products.

End of the corner office: DC law firm designs its new space for millennials
The Washington Post
A D.C. law firm is moving from its more traditional formal office — heavy on the marble, big desks and other markers of status — to an airy and open one designed not for baby boomers like Jeff Costellia, 51, but with up-and-coming millennials in mind. And no one will have a corner office anymore. "The physical spaces in most law firms tend to be built for prestige. This is really an opportunity to turn that on its head," said Jeffrey Lesk, 61, Managing Partner of the D.C. office overseeing the move. "Law firm leases typically go for 15 years. When you think ahead, it becomes really clear really quickly that the vast majority of people now in the law office won't be here in 15 years. So we had to think, 'Who are we building for?'"

How to earn respect as a leader
Harvard Business Review
Respect has to be earned. It's not about a title. When people respect you only because of your authority, they will give you the minimum effort. Some incredibly brilliant people have earned respect because they are so smart, but most people aren't incredibly brilliant. So how do you go about it? There are three ways.
