Join the American Associations Day Host Committee in D.C.
As leaders of state associations from across the country and members of the American Associations Day Host Committee, we have come together with the common goal of advocating for our community. We are asking you to join us in DC March 9-10 to share with Congress the Power of A Message: associations impact our future, fuel the economy, enrich lives and keep us competitive.
Join us at American Associations Day to learn about the issues, meet association professionals from your state and around the country, and attend the ASAE Board Reception. With the issue of federal employee attendance at meetings still under fire, the new overtime rule posing a threat to many associations, and the potential 40 percent excise tax on healthcare plans- there are no shortage of issues. A frequent question of association executives is, "Can you tell us how to get our committees to work?" It is followed by descriptions of declines in volunteering, do-nothing committees and committees that act without authority. Governing bodies have relied on committees for centuries. The results can be powerful. The intent of committees has always been to make the best use of talented persons willing to give their time to advance issues and solve problems.
Harvard Business Review
Despite the huge impact executives can have on their organizations, failure rates remain high. Prescriptions for what to do continue to fall short. So we wondered: If we closely studied the executives who succeed in top jobs once appointed, could we identify distinguishing features that set them apart and defined their success?
If you are looking to increase both donations and engagement in your cause, social media is a valuable tool that shouldn’t be overlooked. For many associations and nonprofits, print campaigns provide the bread and butter of their communication with supporters, and the majority of donations still come from direct mail channels. As such, it might not be easy to include social media as part of your campaigns. However, with statistics from The Chronicle of Philanthropy showing an impressive increase in online donations, it’s clear that connecting with supporters online is more important than ever before.
Webinars are a GREAT way to engage your organization’s membership. That being said, there are a few things you should and should not do in order to stay professional and have a successful meeting.
