Blast at McArthur, Ohio, Explosives Manufacturing Plant Injures at Least Eight

At least eight workers were injured Tuesday in a blast at an explosives manufacturing plant in southeast Ohio. The explosion occurred about 10:30 a.m. at Austin Powder Co.'s Red Diamond plant near McArthur. It happened in a building where workers make detonating cord used in commercial blasting, said Mike Gleason, executive vice president. More

The National Mine Park in northeast China's Fuxin City, converted from Asia's largest open pit coal mine, opened to tourists on Monday. Admission to the park is free. Covering an area of 28 square kilometers, the park contains a cultural square, a museum, a viewing platform and other attractions. Its construction started in 2007. More

Irving Materials Seeks More Quarry Space

Hamilton County Commissioners may approve the expansion of a Noblesville quarry Monday. Irving Materials Inc. will ask the commissioners in a meeting Monday to rezone 190 acres of farmland near Pennington Road and Ind. 38 East to allow mineral extraction and processing. The company wants to expand its current facility nearby, which is about 260 acres, according to the Hamilton County assessor's office. More

TSA Begins Pilot Test of Explosives Detection Technology at Port Jefferson Ferry
