Nashville seeks ban on commercial vehicles from local streets

Two council members of the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission are trying to pass a bill that would ban commercial vehicles from local streets in Nashville, Tenn. Council members Bruce Stanley and Sam Coleman introduced a bill July 7, which would make it illegal for commercial trucks to be on local roads unless they were picking up or delivering in an effort to cut down on truck traffic and parking on local streets.

Truck weight limit hike concerns highway safety advocates

Railroad in Iowa testing biodiesel

A test under way at the Cedar Rapids-based Iowa Interstate Railroad could lead to more use of biodiesel by railroads. The test started with a blend of 5 percent biodiesel. The biodiesel component will progressively increase to 20 percent to try to determine the optimal mixture for locomotives. The test is expected to take about eight months.

TransCore to provide RFID technology for the Atlanta HOT Lane Conversion

TransCore, the world's largest provider of transportation-based radio frequency identification (RFID) products, was notified by Georgia's State Road and Tollway Authority of their intent to award TransCore a contract to provide RFID technology for the conversion of SRTA's high occupancy vehicle lanes to high occupancy toll lanes along a 15-mile stretch of I-85 in Atlanta.
