Intellione Technologies Corp., was named a finalist in the first global ITS Congestion Challenge for a solution that turns mobile handsets into potential traffic probes that can deliver data to solve traffic congestion. The ITS Congestion Challenge was a global contest developed by ITS America, IBM and Spencer Trask to identify novel new technologies that will help create "smarter cities" and decrease traffic congestion, improve road safety, reduce environmental impact, while strengthening commerce. Toll lane will extend into Milpitas, Calif.

Under the HOT lane system, solo drivers can choose to pay to use the carpool lane. While no tollbooths will be installed, the express lane will operate using the FasTrak system an electronic toll collection system already in use on most Bay Area bridges allowing motorists to prepay tolls. More
Hyundai's cheap, sturdy cars draw buyers

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Co., which manufactures Hyundai and Kia branded cars and trucks, has become a powerhouse of auto sales. Earlier this year, it overtook Ford in sales, becoming the fourth largest automaker in the world. Recently, it beat forecasts and announced it tripled third quarter net profits over the same period last year. In the U.S., it is only one of two automakers - the other is Subaru - to log an increase in sales so far this year. More

Beijing is using the latest information and communications technologies to streamline the city's traffic. The National Day parade marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China happened on Beijing's central Tiananmen Square on Oct. 1. The event drew an audience of more than 200,000 people and nearly 200,000 participants, who all needed to be dispersed within three and a half hours after the ceremony. The event posed an unprecedented challenge to the city's traffic control system. More

2010 Volvo S60 to introduce collision avoidance system

Volvo is set to begin the first production use of its collision avoidance system with the launch of the new S60 sedan next year. Compared to infrared detection systems offered by Mercedes-Benz and BMW, Volvo's system is unique in that it is so far the only one that actively intervenes. More
