U.S. DOT issues challenge to improve road safety through new weather data U.S. Department of Transportation Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Stressing the need to provide timely, high-quality road weather information to the public, Research and Innovative Technology Administrator (RITA) Peter Appel announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will sponsor up to seven innovative ideas for using the Clarus weather information system to improve roadway safety during severe weather. The Department intends to provide up to $80,000 per award in an open competition. Launched in 2004, Clarus provides near real-time atmospheric and pavement observations from more than 2,000 environmental sensor stations and 45,000 road sensors. The result is a comprehensive picture of the weather along the nation's roads that is available to any user, at anytime, anywhere in the U.S. Additional information on how to submit a proposal can be found at www.fbo.gov, Solicitation number DTFH61-10-R-00015.
International Transport Forum to highlight ITS solutions ITS America Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
A few short weeks after the ITS America 20th Annual Meeting in Houston, the 2010 International Transport Forum will highlight innovations in transportation. The forum, from May 26 -28 in Leipzig, Germany, will focus on Transport and Innovation: Unleashing the Potential. It will explore innovative solutions to the goals and challenges of the transport sector. Ministers and other leading decision-makers, including ITS America President Scott Belcher and thought leader Russ Shields, will examine how innovation can assist the transport sector to achieve progress in a range of areas, including environmental goals, supporting economic growth, managing congestion, providing accessibility and ensuring safety and security. An exhibition at the Forum will offer industry, researchers, and expert organizations the opportunity to display technological advances, research and policy initiatives. There will also be a live demonstration of technologies in Augustusplatz in central Leipzig, in an area open to delegates and the general public. You can find more information about the event here.

The voting process is underway for several ITS America Board of Director positions. If you have been designated as the primary contact for your organization with ITS America membership, you should have received an e-mail linking to an online voting system.
