ITS America presented a Smart Solution Spotlight award to Alpharetta, Ga.–based LifeSpan Technologies for pioneering structural monitoring technology that provides state and local agencies with precise, objective information about the structural condition of bridges– information that could be used to evaluate and monitor tens of thousands of structurally deficient bridges across the country. DOT hosts listening session on the future of federal transportation funding ITS America Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
On July 16, ITS America participated in a listening session hosted by the U.S. Department of Transportation entitled Innovative Finance for Surface Transportation. The U.S. DOT held the session in order to hear input from the capital market participants regarding their current credit and loan assistance programs, such as the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act and Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing, as well as the proposed I-FUND, also known as the National Infrastructure Bank proposed by President Obama as part of his 2011 budget. This proposed National Infrastructure Bank would have a budget of $4 billion that would be available for various transportation projects, from roadways, to transit, to railroad. The DOT is seeking to streamline the process for getting approved for and acquiring loans for projects that would advance transportation in the United States.
