Gulf Region ITS to hold first meeting in November

iCone places third in ITS Congestion Challenge

Formed out of a series of successful technology implementation efforts in the commercial vehicle and telecommunications efforts, iCone placed third in the ITS Congestion Challenge for an ITS concept to beam real-time traffic information over the Internet to a central Web site for use by government officials, emergency response personnel, trucking fleets, the public and information resellers, including media outlets and GPS services. PrePass Weigh Station Technology blazes solar trail

PrePass weigh station service is now using sun power to verify truck compliance with state requirements on U.S. 1 near Flagler, Fla. "PrePass' pioneering efforts can blaze a trail for a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation system as other intelligent transportation technologies follow suit," said Richard P. Does U.S. DOT study on commercial driver distraction mean rate hikes?

The U.S. Department of Transportation released a report entitled "Driver Distraction In Commercial Vehicle Operations" in September of 2009. The report documents the results of studies conducted to determine the increased safety risk posed by distracted commercial drivers. In particular two studies' results were combined to include a total of 203 commercial drivers operating 55 trucks in various locations throughout the U.S. More

Florida's Turnpike to go cashless as it switches to electronic tolling

The National Transportation Safety Board in 2006 called for toll plazas nationwide to be revamped to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions. That recommendation came after a chain-reaction crash at an Illinois toll plaza that killed eight people. While a trucker's excessive speed and inattention to slowing traffic caused the crash, the safety board concluded that the crash might have been prevented with open road tolling. More
