Canada: A benchmark for democracy and local governance

On Nov. 27, 2014, Keith Neuman unveiled the 2014 AmericasBarometer survey on Canada's similarities and differences with the U.S. and other countries in the western hemisphere with respect to democracy and governance to MRIA's Ottawa chapter. Survey results revealed a high tolerance level in Canadian society, a country where many still trust people in their community and feel safe in their neighbourhood.

MRIA
MRIA is pleased to welcome Lee Robinson as its new Compliance Officer, starting July 6, 2015. Lee brings a wealth of compliance and standards experience to the organization. Working with the Research Agency Council, the Standards Committee and the Professional Development and Certification Committee, Lee will be responsible for revamping the current Gold Seal Certification process, conducting audits of both corporate and CMRP designated members, as well as implementing and enforcing standards across the membership.

Elimination of voter ID cards could leave thousands disenfranchised at polls

Denying people the ability to use voter identification cards as valid ID at the polls could disenfranchise tens of thousands of eligible voters in the upcoming federal election, advocacy groups warned in court recently. The Council of Canadians and the Canadian Federation of Students are seeking an interim injunction against a key voter identification provision in the Fair Elections Act, passed last year.
