AMR sees business travel picking up

Parking rates are rising at airports across the U.S. as aviation authorities and local governments seek additional revenue amid shrinking air traffic. Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports and San Diego's Lindbergh Field announced parking price increases recently, following other large airports that raised rates in the past year. More

Citizens from 35 countries could be barred from boarding U.S.-bound flights starting in March if they don't register online before flying, according to the Homeland Security Department. The government hopes that registration will flag visitors with criminal records or immigration problems before they enter the U.S. More

The "American Express Spending & Saving Tracker," the fifth in a monthly series, found that this year consumers are most focused on their financial well-being, and are approaching the year with an optimistic but prudent financial outlook. In fact, nine in 10 (89 percent) of the general population have set a clear financial goal for the year and 83 percent have a specific savings strategy in place, with a goal of saving on average $14,000. This is an ambitious goal, given that it accounts for approximately 22 percent of their household income. More

Reports of airplanes hitting birds and other wildlife surged last year, including serious accidents such as birds crashing through cockpits and crippling engines in flight, according to an Associated Press analysis of new government data. More than a dozen states across two migration routes from Minnesota to Texas have seen the highest increases. More

One year after a flock of Canada geese caused a US Airways jet to crash land in New York City's Hudson River, officials at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are taking unprecedented steps to prevent wildlife from interfering with airplane travel. Sea-Tac recently became the first U.S. airport to deploy a radar system that shows real-time bird activity around the airport, officials announced. More
