Carriers improve on-time performance despite JFK runway construction

Thanks to "mild spring weather," 84 percent of flights operated by North American airlines were on time last month, according to FlightStats, besting March's 80 percent on-time rating and representing the best monthly on-time performance since November 2009. More

Sun Country Airlines is to fly direct from the Essex, airport in the U.K. to Minneapolis St Paul once a week from June 13 until August 13. The flights are linked to tourist attractions in the Minneapolis St Paul region – but it is also seen as a key hub for other U.S. Mid West cities. More

Allegiant Air announced the start of twice-weekly nonstop flights from Joslin Field, Magic Valley Regional Airport in Idaho to Las Vegas. The announcement came in a press conference at the Twin Falls, Idaho, airport with Allegiant Air officials, city and county leaders and a Vegas showgirl decked out in headgear with a plume of bright feathers and the Allegiant Air logo. Miami Air International signs EcoPower Engine Wash & Line Maintenance Services Agreement

Miami Air International signed an exclusive five-year agreement to use Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower1 engine wash services on its fleet of B737 CFM562 engines at EcoPower service center locations in the United States and Europe. The agreement also provides for certain engine line maintenance services on a preferred vendor basis. EcoPower franchisee, Jet Aircraft Maintenance, is scheduled to perform the washes at the Miami International and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airports. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. company. More

Not chump change: Airlines collected $7.8 billion in fees last year

It may no longer be accurate to say that airlines are nickel-and-diming customers with new fees. That's because those fees are adding up to billions of dollars. About $7.8 billion, to be precise. That's how much U.S. carriers combined to make in fees in 2009, according the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. That marked a 42 percent jump in how much U.S. airlines earned from such fees in 2008. More
