Boeing completes first 787 GEnx engine runs

The first General Electric GEnx engines on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner came to life with initial engine starts. Customers can choose between the GEnx engines and the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines to power their 787s. "This is another exciting step in our progress on the 787 test program," said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 Program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "Our partners at GE have worked diligently to ensure their engines are ready for the testing that is going to occur both before first flight of ZA005 and throughout the flight test program." More

United reports small increase in April traffic

United Airlines and its regional affiliates posted a slim 0.6 percent increase in April traffic, less than gains reported by two other carriers, but an important revenue ratio jumped by more than one-fifth in a sign that airlines are gaining power to raise prices. Passenger revenue per available seat mile on United and the regional affiliates rose an estimated 23 percent to 24 percent over a year ago. More

The Federal Aviation Administration official from Washington was watching a display screen showing small blue crescents, each a nearby airplane sharing the sky. Southwest expands national footprint with planned South Carolina service

House passes another FAA extension

In a major victory for organized labor, unions will have an easier time signing up airline and railroad workers after the Obama administration changed a 76-year-old rule on union elections. The change is the most significant so far in a string of White House moves designed to boost unions, which are struggling to reverse years of decline in membership. More
