Regulatory update — FMCSA publishes corrections to commercial license testing and learner’s permit final rule

On July 5, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published in the Federal Register a list of corrections to a May 9 final rule on commercial driver's license (CDL) testing and commercial learner's permit (CLP) standards. The rule amends the CDL knowledge and skills testing standards and establishes new minimum Federal standards for States to issue the CLP. Since the final rule was published in May, FMCSA identified minor discrepancies regarding section references in the regulatory text. The July 5 document corrects those section references. The final rule is effective immediately, and states have a deadline of July 8, 2014, to make required changes.
