NADRA Minnesota Chapter honors a local soldier and family
NADRA
NADRA recently announced the official plans and build schedule for their latest Deck For a Soldier® project. The Minnesota Chapter will break ground on Monday, May 23. Construction will be completed in just five days, with a ribbon cutting ceremony being held on Saturday, May 28!

NADRA launched its Deck For a Soldier® program in 2007; this is a community effort that expresses our appreciation for the service and dedication of the men and women of our armed forces. The project will be completed with strictly donated materials, time and labor.

NADRA New Jersey Chapter update:
A letter from the NJ President Robert Lascelle

NADRA
Many thanks to the generous support of Marc Currie and the crew at Niece Lumber for hosting our meeting and for the continued support of our growing New Jersey Chapter.

Our highlighted speakers provided a well-rounded view on the ever-changing economy, product availability, sustainability, as well as an emphasis on the importance of customer service geared to the "changing" consumer. Special thanks to Kim Griffin of Griffin Consulting Partners, LLC., Ed Chavez of Potomac Supply Corp., and Richard Lane of Viance for taking the time to answer questions after their presentations as well.

Please keep in mind that we are still eager for new recruits for the Deck for a Soldier® project. Also, our Chapter is always looking for new members — keep in mind our Vice President Lainie who talked about the "power of one" approach — for every new member you add to our group, and every member that they bring to the group, you will be adding one more dynamic to NADRA.

When it's time for a new deck, details count
Douglas Budget
Backyard decks beckon this time of year. They are the perfect place for spending lazy summer days or for entertaining on blissful summer nights. Today's decks offer homeowners a comfortable place to spend time. As a home improvement that offers return on investment, a new or upgraded deck ranks near the top of the list, behind only kitchen and bath remodels. What's the biggest trend in decks this summer? "Homeowners are asking for more add-ons, including different styles of outdoor lighting," says Mick Feduniec of Deckscapes, LLC, in Charlotte, N.C.More

Housing and economic forecasts point to rising activity
Builder Magazine
Home sales are expected to stay on an uptrend through 2012, although the performance will be uneven with mortgage constraints weighing on the market, according to experts at a residential real estate forum at the Realtors Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said existing-home sales have been underperforming by historical standards and will rise gradually but unevenly. More

Remodeling Market Index reaches highest level in 4 years
Appliance Design
According to the National Association of Home Builders' Remodeling Market Index, the remodeling market is heading into recovery with an increase to 46.5 in the first quarter of 2011 from 41.5 in the fourth quarter of 2010. This marks the highest level for the RMI since the fourth quarter of 2006. An RMI below 50, however, indicates that still more remodelers report market activity is lower (compared to the prior quarter) than report it is higher. More

Patio becomes the family room
The Sacramento Bee
High gasoline prices and a halting economy may have some families rethinking their vacation plans for this year and instead investing in new (or more) deck furniture and accoutrements for at-home leisure and dining. There is a lot to like out there. Outdoor living is definitely on the rise. Global Industry Analysts Inc. predicts that by 2015, U.S. consumers will spend more than $4.4 billion on outdoor furniture.
