A recent survey by the NAW Institute for Distribution Excellence on behalf of the Industrial Careers Pathway found that 91 percent of distribution firms surveyed plan to hire new employees within the next five years. Firms in this mature industry are facing an unprecedented demographic, with three to four out of every 10 workers planning to retire within five years. Josh Baribeau, senior associate analyst at CANACCORD Genuity, gave an opening presentation this past winter at the ninth annual DOE Solid-State Lighting R&D Workshop. Baribeau's analysis is that by the end of 2020, LEDs will fill at least 54.8 percent of lighting sockets in the world. The most optimistic of his assessments is that LEDs will be generating illumination in more than 82 percent of those sockets.
