Why 70 miles per hour is the new 55
The Wall Street Journal    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Left to their own devices, American drivers confronted with an open stretch of interstate highway tend to drive at about 70 miles per hour—whatever the legal speed limit happens to be. That's the finding of an analysis of speed data gathered by TomTom Inc., a marketer of GPS navigation devices. This helps to explain why safety advocates and conservationists are losing the long-running debate over lowering freeway speed limits. More

Thank You for Your Support of the Yellow School Bus!

As you know NAPT has been calling since early 2007 for a federal campaign to promote the yellow school bus and with your support we are so much closer! Several members of congress have agreed to send a letter to the Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, urging him to allocate $5 million from his budget for this project.

We needed your help in this effort to write to your local representatives in order to persuade 50 congressional representatives to sign on to the letter and have received 48 thus far! We're hopeful two more will sign on today!

As you know, the yellow school bus is the safest form of ground transportation in the country – it saves lives, reduces energy consumption, diminishes traffic congestion, and therefore, also helps the environment. Let's continue to spread the word!
