Affordable interior design pushes the remodeling industry forward

The improving economy and a steadily growing housing market have contributed to the growth of the interior design industry, helping old businesses consolidate their finances and new ones to sprout up as well. Homeowners who held off major decisions about renovations have shown more enthusiasm in recent months. New home sales have also risen, and with them comes a demand for interior design that will help sell them faster. One particular trend that is manifesting itself strongly among all this growth is the rise of affordable designs.

USA Today’s Home and Garden 2015 special section appears March 13-14 and gives serious ink to NARI! Kevin Anundson, NARI National President, shares “There’s no place like home” on page 2 and a NARI ad directs consumers to find a NARI pro near them. In addition, NARI experts talk about “2015 top kitchen trends.” The special section has a distribution of 450,000 copies of USA Today, reaching more than 1.3 million readers. Print copies are distributed in New York, Philadelphia, DC/Baltimore, Chicago, Denver and the Carolinas.

Value of major remodels slips as home prices soften

The cost of undertaking a major remodeling project increased last year, but the added value of those projects declined. That finding, from Remodeling magazine's 2015 Cost vs. Value Report, reflects a substantial drop in the overall rise of home prices last year (from 10.8 percent in 2013 to 4.8 percent in 2014). With the growth in prices expected to slow even further this year, homeowners looking to sell may begin to have second thoughts about undertaking high-priced projects for which they will get a poor return on their investment.
