According to a Nielsen report from 2012, “Ninety-two percent of consumers around the world say they trust earned media, such as word-of-mouth or recommendations from friends and family, above all other forms of advertising.” In this 24/7 digital age in which we live, sharing our recommendations is easier than ever, and they can travel much farther than just between our family and friends, thanks to sites like Yelp and Angie’s List. But are these online review sites as powerful as traditional “verbal” word-of-mouth? The answer is yes.

Golf with Fox Valley chapter
National Association of the Remodeling Industry
NARI Fox Valley, Wisconsin, is holding its 16th Annual Golf Outing on Thursday, June 19, at the Grand View Golf Club. The golf outing is played as a Scramble, but if your foursome is looking for a challenge, you will have the option to play the course as a Best Ball competition. If we have two or more teams interested, we will add a new competition.

Registration starts at noon with a shotgun start of 12:30 p.m. Following the scramble, you’re invited to a dinner reception with raffle prizes and a silent auction. Cost to golf is $200 per foursome, or $55.00 per person.

NARI of Silicon Valley, California, will hold Part 2 of its Lunch ‘n Learn as an evening workshop, “Learn How to Acquire, Retain and Engage Customers.” This special 2.5 hour workshop will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. and be lead by Kathy Long of Kat & Mouse Co., who is also a local search expert, and under her expert guidance, you will complete the “Get Google rank” workbook and checklists.

You’ll also learn the three main criteria Google uses to rank a website in its Google places, how to optimize your website so Google ranks you at the top for the keywords of your choice, how to use social media to build relevancy and trust so that Google ranks you higher and more.

New IRS program to give penalty relief to small business retirement plans

In June, the IRS will launch a one-year pilot program intended to help small businesses with retirement plans that owe penalties for unknowingly failing to file reporting documents. Small businesses that file current and prior-year forms during this pilot program can avoid penalties. The program is targeting certain small businesses that maintain retirement plans but may have been unaware of the filing requirement.

Home remodeling trumps moving in current market

With the exception of millennials, the majority of U.S. homeowners who are remodeling plan to stay in their home for the long term, according to the third annual Houzz & Home survey. 53 percent of U.S. homeowners say they are remodeling to increase the resale value of their home, but have no plans to move in the next five years, and 16 percent plan to sell their home in the next two years.
